Upcoming Friday through Sunday street closures for Carson City Off-Road event
The Epic Rides Off-Road Series is a nationally recognized mountain bike festival featuring endurance racing, music, biking exhibitions and more. The City entered into a five-year agreement with Epic Rides and the Carson City Culture and Tourism Authority regarding the Carson City Off-Road event to be held the third weekend of each June.
The 2016 event was the first under the agreement, since the inaugural event, participant and spectator counts have increased and continue to draw more national attention to the Carson City trail system and bike-minded community.
This year’s Carson City Off-Road was rescheduled for June 28-30 in response to the significant snowfall this winter brought. Planning and coordination efforts have been underway for several months. Numerous City departments are involved as well as Epic Rides staff and the Carson City Culture and Tourism Authority.
Additional partners have been involved as well, including Muscle Powered, the Nevada State Parks Department, and the U.S. Forest Service.
Each year the course underwent modifications to reduce potential impacts on both residents and businesses. Much of the planning and coordination emphasizes on establishing an effective traffic control plan to limit the need for continuous street closures.
Throughout the duration of the endurance racing, streets in the west side will have flaggers at intersections and major route transitions. In addition, the Sheriff’s Office Motor Unit will escort off-road participants on both the egress and ingress course into downtown.
Bicyclists are required to have head lamps and tail lamps for nighttime riding in Carson City. Helmets are mandatory for those participating; however helmets are not mandatory for spectator riders but all riders are encouraged to wear a helmet. Please ensure proper gear is being utilized.
Please use bike locks to secure bicycles when left unattended and use designated bicycle racks if possible, do not block or obstruct pedestrian walkways.
The city's public transit system, Jump Around Carson (JAC) will operate alternate routes for Route 2B and Route 3 on Friday, June 28 and Saturday, June 29. View details at carson.org/JAC.
